The Essence of Christmas is Forgiveness

As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, let’s not focus on the birth of a child, but rather the job that Child was sent to do.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. ~ 1 John 4:9-10

How amazing is that?! That sinful little man could be loved so much by the God Who created him, that He sent His own Son into the world to bring the gift of forgiveness that we in no way deserved or could earn. We are all sinners in desperate need of forgiveness.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. ~ Romans 8:1-4

So what are we to do with this wonderful, GOOD NEWS? Here are two special ways you can show your love and appreciation to God for sending His Son into the world to forgive your sins:

First, recognize your own sinfulness. Get quiet with God and confess your sins to Him.

Second, extend the forgiveness you have received from God to others in your life.

Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. ~ Ephesians 4:32
