Thanksgiving – Let’s take a moment to reflect on the word that designates this national holiday – thanksgiving. I think the word thanksgiving rates right up there with the word Rejoice!
Thanksgiving, being grateful, being appreciative, this should be a way of life for us, naturally flowing from our hearts and mouths. When we are thankful, our focus moves off of our selfish desires and off the pain of our circumstances. It reminds us of the bigger picture. We do not naturally gravitate to a mindset of thanksgiving, but moment by moment we have the opportunity to choose to be thankful.
Instead of complaining, we can choose to speak of what is good. Instead of comparing, we can give thanks for what we have. Instead of feeling entitled and wanting more, let’s reflect on the daily simple blessings, just look around you and see the beauty, take a deep breath and feel energized, dance in happiness as you go out the door today simply because you can!
Let’s think about this for a moment – To not choose daily and deliberately to be thankful, to have a heart filled with gratitude, is by default to choose to be filled with ingratitude.
So as we rapidly head toward the wonderful national holiday of Thanksgiving, let’s start here and now, in this very moment to choose a fresh desire to have, moment by moment, a grateful, thankful, rejoicing spirit reflected in our words and deeds, as we honor God and bring Him glory. Amen!
