Girlfriends Can Help Make Us Better Wives

It is important for husbands and wives to reserve time together each day to communicate. Recognize though, that men and women have different conversational needs. Since sharing needs may differ, both should be sensitive to the other. A husband may need some down time when he first arrives home from work. He may give brief answers with little detail. A wife may need to be patiently listened to by her husband as she shares about her day in greater detail than he really cares to hear. Ultimately, there should be some special time that is reserved each day for you and your spouse to join together in conversation.

Your husband should be your best friend, but he may not want to hear about every little detail with the kids, or your relationships with friends and co-workers. A wife should seek out God-honoring relationships with other women. Although both men and women benefit by having same-sex friendships, it especially helps women, who typically have greater relational needs. Be discerning to establish a code of conduct that does not allow for husband-bashing. You may share frustrations with your friend about your husband or kids, but always with a heart for how you can go back and improve the situation. Use these relationships to learn how to be a more loving wife and a better mother. Be sure that you bring the same heartfelt advice to your friends who share with you as well. These are the type of women friendships that honor God.

…women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. ~ 1 Timothy 3:11

…teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. ~ Titus 2:3-5
